Dr. Smith is a paediatric ophthalmologist and strabismologist. His practice focuses on the management of primary, secondary and tertiary care of patients with strabismus and ocular motor disorders, as well as general paediatric ophthalmology. He is a staff ophthalmologist at The Hospital for Sick Children, as well as the Humber River Regional Hospital-Finch Site. He is co-director of the orthoptics department at The Hospital for Sick Children and is a principle lecturer on strabismus and paediatric ophthalmology to University of Toronto medical students. He is also a principle lecturer to Ophthalmology Fellows in paediatric ophthalmology during their strabismus forums. He is co-chair of the strabismus rounds at The Hospital for Sick Children. Dr. Smith is active in resident education having won the 1994/95 J.S. Crawford Award for Excellence in Teaching. Dr. Smith is actively involved in the yearly Jack Crawford Day, often lecturing and chairing the meeting. He holds many current memberships, such as the Canadian Ophthalmological Society (COS), the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), Canadian Orthoptic Council, was a charter member of the American Association for Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismology (AAPOS), the International Strabismological Association, and the Canadian Association of Paediatric Ophthalmologists.
